558-608 – Calls – Is your advice to young people “wait longer to get married,” or “plan on getting married sooner”?

(1:10) Dr. Al Mohler 1.  Celibacy is the exception. (Focus on the Family 6/6/2011).  There is no Biblical category of “enduring singleness” except for the gift of celibacy in gospel service for God’s glory.

(1:07) Dr. Al Mohler 2.  Protection in marriage.  Women provide men the protection of his passions.  Men desperately need a wife as protection for honor, passion, and integrity.  We desperately need that, otherwise we men will sin gruesomely without a wife.  She is there to remind us at every moment:  You belong to me before God, you owe me all of your sexual passion, you owe me all of your sexual interest.  God has given us to each other and you may not look outside this covenant of marriage where your passions might lead you.

(1:54) Dr. Al Mohler 3. Sexual maturity vs. marriage year.  In 1900, the average boy reached sexual maturity at about age 15 and was usually married by age 20.  The average girl reached sexual maturity at age 14, and was married between 18-20.  Today, sexual maturity arrives for both girls and boys about age 13.  What have we done here?  We have created this incredible span of time where sexual passion is ignited but there is no holy means for it to be fulfilled.  This does not mean you marry at 16.  But [paraphrased], imagine if our world was more accepting of and encouraging for couples to  marry earlier within the Biblical understanding that maturity comes through the crucible of adult-making… We have established a “boy culture” where boys are not growing up into men.

(:36) Jeff Vines 1. Both marriage and singleness are gifts. (Sermon on dating and singleness 6/5/2011).  In 1 Corinthians 7:7-9, Paul said, “Yet I wish that all men were even as I myself am. However, each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner, and another in that.  8 But I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I.  9 But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.”

(:22) Jeff Vines 2.  You ask, “Pastor Jeff, how do I know when I’m ready?”  Research indicates you double your chance for a successful marriage if you wait until your 25.  If you marry at or before 24, you’re twice as likely to divorce as those who marry at 25 or later.

• WTHR (6/7/2011) No more national anthem at pacifist Indiana college.

A small northern Indiana college has decided to stop playing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at sporting events after starting to do so for the first time last year.

Goshen College’s board of directors says it will find an alternative that honors the country and the Mennonite Church-affiliated school’s pacifist traditions.

The 1,000-student college has been playing an instrumental version of the national anthem, followed by a peace prayer, before games and other events. Some were upset with the school’s decision last year because the song’s lyrics contain references to using war and military might to defend the country.

Art professor John Blosser tells The Goshen News that there is much national pride at the school, but that most people aren’t going to blindly accept what the country does.

• Fox News (6/7/2011) Jilted Ex-Boyfriend’s Abortion Billboard Ignites Free Speech Debate.

A New Mexico man’s decision to lash out with a billboard ad saying his ex-girlfriend had an abortion against his wishes has touched off a legal debate over free speech and privacy rights.

The sign on Alamogordo’s main thoroughfare shows 35-year-old Greg Fultz holding the outline of an infant. The text reads, “This Would Have Been A Picture Of My 2-Month Old Baby If The Mother Had Decided To Not KILL Our Child!”

Fultz’s ex-girlfriend has taken him to court for harassment and violation of privacy. A domestic court official has recommended the billboard be removed.

But Fultz’s attorney argues the order violates his client’s free speech rights.  “As distasteful and offensive as the sign may be to some, for over 200 years in this country the First Amendment protects distasteful and offensive speech,” Todd Holmes said.

The woman’s friends say she had a miscarriage, not an abortion, according to a report in the Albuquerque Journal.

Holmes disputes that, saying his case is based on the accuracy of his client’s statement.

“My argument is: What Fultz said is the truth,” Holmes said.

The woman’s lawyer said she had not discussed the pregnancy with her client. But for Ellen Jessen, whether her client had a miscarriage or an abortion is not the point. The central issue is her client’s privacy and the fact that the billboard has caused severe emotional distress, Jessen said.

“Her private life is not a matter of public interest,” she told the Alamogordo Daily News.

Jessen says her client’s ex-boyfriend has crossed the line.

“Nobody is stopping him from talking about father’s rights. … but a person can’t invade someone’s private life.”

For his part, Holmes said that during a domestic court hearing last week he pointed to the U.S. Supreme Court decision earlier this year concerning the Westboro Baptist Church, which is known for demonstration signs and slogans that include anti-gay slurs.

“Very unpopular offensive speech,” he told the Alamogordo Daily News. “The Supreme Court, in an 8 to 1 decision, said that is protected speech.”

Holmes says he is going to fight the order to remove the billboard through a District Court appeal.

• USA Today (6/7/2011) U.S. funding for future promises lags by trillions.

The federal government’s financial condition deteriorated rapidly last year, far beyond the $1.5 trillion in new debt taken on to finance the budget deficit, a USA TODAY analysis shows.

The government added $5.3 trillion in new financial obligations in 2010, largely for retirement programs such as Medicare and Social Security. That brings to a record $61.6 trillion the total of financial promises not paid for.

This gap between spending commitments and revenue last year equals more than one-third of the nation’s gross domestic product.

Medicare alone took on $1.8 trillion in new liabilities, more than the record deficit prompting heated debate between Congress and the White House over lifting the debt ceiling.

STORY: Government’s mountain of debt

Social Security added $1.4 trillion in obligations, partly reflecting longer life expectancies. Federal and military retirement programs added more to the financial hole, too.

Corporations would be required to count these new liabilities when they are taken on — and report a big loss to shareholders. Unlike businesses, however, Congress postpones recording spending commitments until it writes a check.

The $61.6 trillion in unfunded obligations amounts to $534,000 per household. That’s more than five times what Americans have borrowed for everything else — mortgages, car loans and other debt. It reflects the challenge as the number of retirees soars over the next 20 years and seniors try to collect on those spending promises.

“The (federal) debt only tells us what the government owes to the public. It doesn’t take into account what’s owed to seniors, veterans and retired employees,” says accountant Sheila Weinberg, founder of the Institute for Truth in Accounting, a Chicago-based group that advocates better financial reporting. “Without accurate accounting, we can’t make good decisions.”

Michael Lind, policy director at the liberal New America Foundation‘s economic growth program, says there is no near-term crisis for federal retirement programs and that economic growth will make these programs more affordable.

“The false claim that Social Security and Medicare are about to bankrupt the United States has been repeated for decades by conservatives and libertarians who pretend that their ideological opposition to these successful and cost-effective programs is based on worries about the deficit,” he says.

USA TODAY has calculated federal finances based on standard accounting rules since 2004 using data from the Medicare and Social Security annual reports and the little-known audited financial report of the federal government.

The government has promised pension and health benefits worth more than $700,000 per retired civil servant. The pension fund’s key asset: federal IOUs.

628-639 – • Fox News (6/2/2011) Federal Judge Prohibits Prayer at Texas Graduation Ceremony.

Chief U.S. District Judge Fred Biery’s order against the Medina Valley Independent School District also forbids students from using specific religious words including “prayer” and “amen.”

The ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by Christa and Danny Schultz. Their son (Corwyn) is among those scheduled to participate in Saturday’s graduation ceremony. The judge declared that the Schultz family and their son would “suffer irreparable harm” if anyone prayed at the ceremony.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the school district is in the process of appealing the ruling, and his office has agreed to file a brief in their support.

“Part of this goes to the very heart of the unraveling of moral values in this country,” Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott told Fox News Radio, saying the judge wanted to turn school administrators into “speech police.”

“I’ve never seen such a restriction on speech issued by a court or the government,” Abbott told Fox News Radio. “It seems like a trampling of the First Amendment rather than protecting the First Amendment.”

Judge Biery’s ruling banned students and other speakers from using religious language in their speeches. Among the banned words or phrases are: “join in prayer,” “bow their heads,” “amen,” and “prayer.”

He also ordered the school district to remove the terms “invocation” and “benediction” from the graduation program.

“These terms shall be replaced with ‘opening remarks’ and ‘closing remarks,’” the judge’s order stated. His ruling also prohibits anyone from saying, “in [a deity’s name] we pray.”

Should a student violate the order, school district officials could find themselves in legal trouble. Judge Biery ordered that his ruling be “enforced by incarceration or other sanctions for contempt of Court if not obeyed by District official (sic) and their agents.”

400-408 – Thom Miller, (thommiller.org) is a Cleveland mobster turned minister, who now runs the international prison ministry Special Visit (specialvisit.org), and the ministry Kids Tears (kidstears.org) that helps protect children from sexual abuse at the hands of family and friends.  In many ways, Ray Liotta’s character in Goodfellas is Thom’s story, shoe-shine boy to drug dealer to enforcer.  Thom was indicted 52 times, convicted 36 times, and the 52nd indictment was for killing a guy in a bar fight.  He came to Christ on his own, in solitary, on death row, on his 37th birthday, while serving a 15 year prison term, while reading a stolen King James New Testament as a dyslexic.  Broken externally and internally, grieving the crayon pictures his 12 kids mailed him saying “Daddy when are you coming home?”, grieving his mother going blind yet crying herself to sleep each night praying “God, save my son.”  And, grieving the darkness of the only life he’d ever known.

443-452 – Thom Miller, and Travis Mendel (facebook.com/mobstertoministermovie, MobsterToMinistermovie.com) a filmmaker hoping to do a movie about Thom entitled Mobster to Minister.  Travis began making films in high school and college, and worked on the media team out at Calvary Community in Westlake in 2007, before entering and winning several awards at the 168 Film Festival in 2008 and later at Cannes.  Travis heard me say on the show when I was talking to Thom, “somebody ought to make a movie about this,” and contacted Thom soon afterwards.  Rebekah Score is doing the writing.  Travis hopes to make a documentary and later a feature film on Thom’s life.

458-508 – Thom Miller,

• In August 2009, Thom’s world was rocked when the youngest of his two step-daughters, just 9 at the time and her older sister was 11, handed him a note that basically said, that the bad man was grandpa and he had been hurting them.  They had been having a discussion about “no touch areas” and the “bad people” who hurt children, when the little girl ran into the kitchen and handed him the note and ran off.  It ended up that grandpa had been raping them for years!   He’s now in prison.  As a result, Thom is driven to expose the reality of child sexual abuse through his ministry kidstears.org, where he has a lot of free, downloadable resources.

• Kids Tears, “Shocking Statistics.”

Nearly 25% of child victimizers were age 40 or older, but about 10% of the inmates with adult victims fell in that age range.

Convicted rape and sexual assault offenders serving time in State prisons report that two-thirds of their victims were under the age of 18, and 58% of those–or nearly 6 in 10 imprisoned violent sex offenders–said their victims were aged 12 or younger.

In over 90% of the rapes of children less than 12 years old, the child knew the offender, according to police-recorded incident data.

This problem affects all of us, whether you have children or not. According to the Center for Sex Offender Management, 30 percent of adult sex offenders were sexually abused as children. If we each do our part, we can break the cycle and protect our children from sexual predators.

Here are some other statistics about sex offenders and their young victims that may surprise you and debunk some myths.  According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in the U.S.:

- Two-thirds (67 percent) of all victims of sexual assault reported to law enforcement agencies were under the age of 18 at the time of the crime.

- One of every seven victims of sexual assault reported to law enforcement agencies was under age 6.

- The year in a male’s life when he is most likely to be the victim of a sexual assault is age 4; a female’s greatest risk is at age 14.

- Nearly half (49 percent) of the offenders of victims under age 6 were family members.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the typical sex offender molests an average of 117 children, although most offenses are never reported.

- 80 percent of convicted adult rapists admit to molesting children.

- 80 to 95 percent of sex offenders assault people they know.

- Less than 30 percent of sex crimes are reported.

- Young victims who know or are related to the offender are least likely to report the crime.

It is estimated that in America there are 60 million childhood sexual abuse survivors.

And Kaitlyn, is the young lady whose question brought us all to tears last week at the Dobson event at Lake Avenue.  I began the Q&A by reading her question for Dr. Dobson that went like this, “We talk about absentee fathers all the time and how it affects the family.  I’m a 14-year-old girl and last saw my dad shortly after my first birthday.  My mom and I often talk about love and forgiveness.  But now at 14, I am tired of it and have a hard time feeling love and forgiveness for my father.  Help  – Kaitlyn.”

As we all were wiping away our tears, Dr. Dobson went on to talk a lot about the huge impact fathers have on their daughters.  Pointedly, he said that the research shows that if it was a good relationship, daughters will marry a man just like dad – but, if it wasn’t, then they’ll intentionally look to marry a man very much unlike their father.  Fathers have a profound impact either way.  Today, Kaitlyn and Mark talk about it.

400-408 – Alan & Sarah Philps join us from England to share their amazing story about helping a single woman in America named Paula adopt a little boy from a Russian orphanage.  Their story is now a book entitled The Boy From Baby House 10 (Facebook, Amazon, johnlahutsky.com, alanphilps.com).  It was featured on NBC’s Dateline last month on April 11th (link below).  Later, we’ll talk with the the young boy himself, who is now a young man named John Lahutsky.

It was the middle of the night. Vanya had been thinking of ways to escape. He tried to undo the side of the crib, but it was fixed tight. He grabbed the metal bars and tried to pull them apart with all the strength of his puny body. Finally, he collapsed exhausted on the bare mattress. He became aware how cold it was. They had taken away his clothes and he had no blanket . . .

It seemed as if Vanya had slipped into a lower circle of hell where his humanity was slowly stripped away. First his hair was brutally shaved off so he looked like a prisoner. Next, with no one to talk to, his fluent speech deteriorated and his voice was reduced to a whisper. Then, as he was living amid the most distressing scenes of abuse and neglect, he lost his poise and confidence. Finally, his hands began to shake uncontrollably from the drugs he was given to sedate him. He was in free fall towards the depths where a person stops being a member of the human race and reaches a point where he cannot be dragged back.

The Boy from Baby House 10 is the story of a frail little boy with a big spirit triumphing over a callous bureaucracy.

It tells how Vanya, aged only six, alone and incarcerated in a mental asylum, managed to survive the abusive and neglectful care of the Russian state and make his way to start a new life in America.

But more than that, it reveals for the first time the reality of the child care institutions which are truly Russia’s last Gulag – a system established by Stalin which exists to this day.

This is a book which looks behind the glossy façade of modern Russia. Tens of thousands of children have been adopted from Russia to the US, Britain and other European countries. This book shows the unvarnished truth about the institutions they come from. //

• Dr. Dobson will be our special guest-speaker at two events tomorrow (Thursday, May 26th) – first, our Pastor’s Luncheon at the Universal Hilton that’s free to all church staff and their wives;  and second, our big listener event at Lake Avenue at 7pm – it’s a “ya’ll come!”  They’re both free, but please pre-register tonight at kkla.com if you can.

400-408 – • Julia Holcomb (Lifesitenews, 5/24/2011) Exclusive: The Light of the World – the Steven Tyler and Julia Holcomb story.

// Setting the Record Straight

To set the record straight: I was never pregnant before I met Steven Tyler, nor did I ever have a previous abortion and Steven knows this to be true.  I do not believe I started the fire that burned his apartment, but I am thankful to God for the brave firemen who pulled me out of that burning building.  I never asked him for any money after I returned home.  I came to him with nothing and I left him with nothing, except regrets.  Although I presented myself to him in a highly sexualized way, we did not have sex in public places as he wrote in his new book.  His continued gross exaggeration of our relationship is puzzling to me. He has talked of me as a sex object without any human dignity.  I have made a point over these long years never to speak of him, yet he has repeatedly humiliated me in print with distortions of our time together. I do not understand why he has done this. It has been very painful.

• Kevin Burke (NRO, 5/4/2011) Post-Abortion Trauma: “Jesus, what have I done?”  We talked about this on our show back on Friday May 6.

Long before he won accolades as an American Idol judge, Steven Tyler was a bona-fide rock star, with all that that implied. In 1975, when he was in his late 20s and the lead singer for the band Aerosmith, Tyler persuaded the parents of his 14-year-old girlfriend, Julia Holcomb, to make him her legal guardian so that they could live together in Boston.

When Miss Holcomb and Tyler conceived a child, his longtime friend Ray Tabano convinced Tyler that abortion was the only solution. In the Aerosmith “autobiography,” Walk This Way (in which recollections by all the band members, and their friends and lovers, were assembled by the author Stephen Davis), Tabano says: “So they had the abortion, and it really messed Steven up because it was a boy. He . . . saw the whole thing and it [messed] him up big time.”

Tyler also reflects on his abortion experience in the autobiography. “It was a big crisis. It’s a major thing when you’re growing something with a woman, but they convinced us that it would never work out and would ruin our lives. . . . You go to the doctor and they put the needle in her belly and they squeeze the stuff in and you watch. And it comes out dead. I was pretty devastated. In my mind, I’m going, Jesus, what have I done?”

413-443 – Calls – Julia was first abandoned by her father, then her mother, then by Steven Tyler… she was 16 and alone.   Were you ever abandoned?  How did you make it through?  Julia was coerced into her abortion… were you coerced?  Julia has arrived at the place where she has forgiven Steven Tyler… what’s your forgiveness story?

443-452 – Calls –

458-508 – Teaching – The Basics of Angelology & Demonology

512-523 – Calls – What’s your guardian angel story?  Can you “see dead people?”  Do human beings ever become ghosts, zombies, vampires, etc.?  What about necromancy, and the desire to talk to dead loved ones?  Angels, nor demons, can read your mind, only God can, but they can plant thoughts into your mind.  We usually report them as promptings, feelings, nudges, but sometimes they can be explicitly clear and direct.  The angelic cannot read your mind, only God can, but they can plant thoughts and visions in your mind.

628-639 – John Fuller, is vice president of Audio and New Media at Focus on the Family (focusonthefamily.com), overseeing a dozen features that reach millions of listeners every day around the world, and he’s co-host of their daily broadcast, heard here on KKLA at 430am, 730am, 1130am, and 10pm.  John is out with his new book entitled First Time Dad:  The Stuff You Really Need To Know.  And he should know, he and his wife Dena enjoy six children, and are very involved as advocates for orphan care and adoption.

First Time Dad offers soon to be dads and new dads a head start on the stuff a dad really needs to know.  John helps us to avoid common fathering mistakes, to learn how to keep our marriages alive, to set priorities, and especially understand the power of our words.   This book will show you how to cultivate a lasting parent-child relationship and get excited about being a father!

• Tim Blair (Daily Telegraph, 5/25/2011) RAPTURE WATCH.  The world will end in 2002, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, 2026, 2029 or 2046, according to a series of expert observations:

1992: There’s still hope for saving the planet from ourselves … 10 years left.

2005: We can only have a few years left, maybe a decade, to change societal attitudes towards progress before we have “lit the fuse” for inevitable environmental catastrophe in later decades.

2006: We may have as little as forty years left before global warming passes a tipping point.

2006: Larry David says, “You know, Al is a funny guy, but he’s also a very serious guy who believes humans may have only 10 years left to save the planet from turning into a total frying pan.”

2006: The world only has 10 years to develop and implement new technologies to generate clean electricity before climate change reaches a point of no return.

2007: Scientists say eight years left to avoid worst effects

2007: The scientific consensus is that we’ve got only ten years left to address global warming.

2007: EU, US agree 15 years left to avert climate disaster.

2008: We have only seven years left to peak global emissions before facing escalating dangers of runaway global warming.

2008: The Stern Report said we’ve only got eight to eighteen years left to significantly reduce global emissions or risk costly and irreversible damage to the planet.

2009: We have, at best, 100 left before a new, far more dangerous phase of global warming begins … With at best 90 months left on our clock.

2009: Barack Obama has only four years to save the world. That is the stark assessment of Nasa scientist and leading climate expert Jim Hansen.

2009: Runaway climate change is almost inevitable without specific action to implement low-carbon re-industrialisation over the next five years. The point of no return is estimated to be 2014.

2009: Tim Flannery, the well-known Australian environmentalist, was on CBC Radio the other day to issue more alarms about global warming. He was more pessimistic than ever. “It’s now or never,” he said. “We have about 20 years to address climate change or else our entire future is in jeopardy.”

2009: Prince Charles flew to Chile yesterday with a dramatic message for world leaders on global warming: “You have just eight years to save the planet.”

2009: Gordon Brown said negotiators had 50 days to save the world from global warming and break the “impasse”.

2011: The Climate Commission report says the world has at best 10 years to cut carbon emissions or it will face dangerous atmospheric warming and sea level rises.

400-408 – • Fox News (5/23/2011) Preacher Who Got Date of Apocalypse Wrong Tries Again, Says He Was Off by Five Months.  Now Judgement Day will be October 21!  Can you believe this?

// … May 21 had instead been a “spiritual” Judgment Day, which places the entire world under Christ’s judgment, he said.

The globe will be completely destroyed in five months, he said, when the apocalypse comes. But because God’s judgment and salvation were completed on Saturday, there’s no point in continuing to warn people about it, so his network will now just play Christian music and programs until the final end on Oct. 21.

// In 2009, the nonprofit reported in IRS filings that it received $18.3 million in donations, and had assets of more than $104 million, including $34 million in stocks or other publicly traded securities.

Josh Ocasion, who works the teleprompter during Camping’s live broadcasts in the group’s threadbare studio sandwiched between an auto shop and a palm reader’s business, said he enjoyed the production work but he had never fully believed the May 21 prophecy would come true.

“I thought he would show some more human decency in admitting he made a mistake,” he said. “We didn’t really see that.”

• LAT (5/23/2011) Lap-Band maker targets teenagers.  Allergan asks the FDA to allow weight-loss surgery for people as young as 14. But that worries some experts.  Allergan is currently in clinical studies on the Lap-Band for teens that are set to conclude in 2013, with FDA approval anticipated some years after that.  The device is a silicon ring fitted around the stomach to reduce food intake.  600,000 people worldwide have had the procedure since 1993.  Minors with parental consent can already get the procedure, this FDA approval would allow Allergan to explicitly target teens in marketing.  If approved, more insurance companies might be induced to cover it.  The procedure can cost up to $20,000.  Allergan had $4.9 billion in sales last year, selling Botox, Natrelle breast implants, Latisse eyelash lengthener, and the Lap-Band.  However, the Lap-Band was just 5% of sales, or $245 million.  Lap-Band sales are down 15% from last year.  And, with 12% of American teens obese, and the numbers continuing to climb, can’t you see a day when the Lap-Band will be covered by Obamacare?  Allergan can.

413-423 – Calls – If you were 100 pounds or more overweight back when you were 14 years old, would you have had a weight loss procedure like the Lap-Band if you could have?  If your 14 year old child was 100 pounds overweight, and they had tried everything else, and they were begging you for it, would you allow them to get a Lap-Band?  Is there a “Christian shame” aspect to this at all?

458-508 – Liz Caddow, brings us three students from Trinity Classical Academy (trinityclassicalacademy.com), along with two of their teachers, Zach Weichbrodt and Chris Leigh.

Joshua Waschak:  After finishing school at Trinity Classical Academy I would like to follow in my fathers footsteps and become a pediatric orthodontist. Coming to this school has allowed me to succeed academically and pursuing this dream is becoming a reality. I would like to further my academics at Pepperdine University, Westmont and I am working to try to get into Stanford University. From there I can continue a pursuit of knowledge and excellence. I believe that I am equipped to move further past a high school diploma and pursue my dream of becoming an orthodontist in order to benefit my community, allowing people to have esthetically pleasing features and as well as fixing problems and allowing people to be as they were meant to be.

Emily Sagardia:  Through my years at Trinity Classical Academy, I have developed a love for math and for helping people, using the gifts God has given me. After I graduate, I hope to continue my studies at Harvard, University of Pennsylvania or Stanford, where I plan to become an environmental engineer and eventually do work through Engineers Without Borders and the Peace Corp. My dream is to visit east Africa to build orphanages, schools and implement clean water sources inside the various villages. I truly believe I am pursuing God’s plan for my life and that I am fully equipped to do so due to my schooling at Trinity Classical Academy.

Rachel Horner:  Trinity Classical Academy has not only challenged me academically, but has molded my character to be one striving towards excellence in all things and honoring to  the Lord. I hope to to attend The Masters College and major in english, but I am also planning to study languages, culture, and music. I want to double major and travel abroad for a few years in Europe for a few years. Right now I am interested in a program at Oxford university, one that is based in Germany, and another in Israel. I believe that Masters will be a place that will help me continue to change into the person that God wants me to be and study the things that I am passionate about.

• (2:42) Gunther Von Harringa 6 on the Michael Medved Show today, 5/20/2011.  Is the Antichrist here already?  The Antichrist is Satan himself.  Satan is in the “Temple” as of May 21, 1988, the date of the beginning of the 23-year Great Tribulation that concludes tomorrow with the Rapture.  Thus, for the past 23 years, Satan has had dominion over every church and every denomination in the world.

At least 116 people were killed in Joplin, Mo., which received the worst of the severe weather.

Since the toll has exceeded 115, it is now one of the ten deadliest tornadoes of all time, none of which have occurred since 1953, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

• Hugh Ross (6/8/2009) RESPONSE TO 2012 PROPHECIES.  What’s going on with the Mayan Calendar stuff?

428-438 – Hugh Ross,

443-452 – Hugh Ross,

warning signs of a cult –  1) Do they believe their group is the only true church, the leader the only true prophet, and their book the only true revelation?  2) Do they encourage you to change your occupation or class load so you can work more hours for the group?  3) Do they require you to raise money and recruit new members?  4)  Is their budget a secret?  5) Do the leaders take an unusual interest in you that requires an increased demand on your time and increased commitment to their group?  6) Do they discourage you from associating with family, friends, other Christian groups and authors?  7) Does the leader expect blind obedience and absolute compliance?  8) Do they seem to overemphasize submission?  9) Do they discourage independent thinking as a sign of weak faith?  10) Do they receive a lot of criticism from outside the group and treat it as an attack from Satan?  11) Do they have legalistic rules?  12) Do they attempt to control your dating, occupation, major, social time?  13) Do they control people with fear and shame? 14) Do they have discipline meetings where members are confronted, humiliated, and forced to confess and repent?  15) Do they disfellowship ex-members?

458-508 – Theresa Flores, is the Director of Awareness and Training at the Grace Haven House in Ohio (gracehavenhouse.org), a long-term faith-based care facility for girls under 18 once trapped in sex trafficking.  Theresa writes about her own experience as a 15-year-old sex slave for two years while still living at home in an affluent Detroit suburb back in 1981 in her book The Slave Across the Street.  Her website is traffickfree.com.  She’s also started the SOAP project (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution), in which the little bars of soap in hotels will ask “Are you being forced to do something against your will?” with the National Human Trafficking Hotline (888) 3737-888.  They distributed 10,000 bars of soap and rescued 60 girls!!

From her traffickfree.com,

• Human Exploitation is not reserved to distant countries outside the U.S.

• One university study estimated up to 300,000 children in the U.S. are victimized by CSE-Commercial Sexual Exploitation.

• The average age of an underage sex worker is 14 years old, but the FBI states children as young as 9 have been rescued. In the US, the average age of entry into sexual exploitation is 12 years old.

*Pimps are Traffickers
*Johns who buy sex from girls under 18 years of age are Pedophiles

*Teen and Child Prostitutes are victims and should NEVER be arrested (though many times are, while the John and Pimp go free)

*Media should NEVER use the words Teen or Child Prostitutes. It should ALWAYS be referred to as Human Sex Trafficking Victim or Commercial Sexual Exploitation of a Child (CSEC).

HUMAN TRAFFICKING: (layman’s definition) – forcing someone, tricking, coercing, threatening or blackmailing them to perform a commercial sex act (including stripping, porn, etc) or to work while benefiting financially from it.  Even offering a teen a happy meal or a bed to sleep in in exchange for having sex is human trafficking.

558-608 – Betsy Meenk is the U.S. Regional Director for Zoe International (zoechildren.org), an organization that provides group homes and education to children who have been victims of child trafficking in Thailand.  A critical difference between Zoe and other organizations is the fact that to date 100% of the kids they have rescued have come to accept Christ as their Savior.

612-623 – Betsy Meenk

628-639 – Bob Hamer, is a real-life Jack Bauer, a veteran FBI agent who’s spent 26 years infiltrating and working undercover in the Russian mob, the Iraqi syndicate, the Crips, La Costa Nostra, and his last undercover, infiltrating NAMBLA, the North American Man-Boy Love Association.  A Marine, a law school graduate, a recipient of the FBI Director’s Award for Distinguished Service, but most importantly, a husband and father.  Next week, Bob’s second Matt Hogan book comes out, following last year’s hit Enemies Among Us, and this new one is entitled Targets Down – and it’s already being adapted for the big screen!

558-608 – Calls – Is Judgment Day Tomorrow?  Harold Camping, 89,  founder of Family Radio, infamous for predicting the end of the world in September 1994, is at it again – this time, the Rapture and Judgment Day will be May 21, 2011, with the end of the world coming on October 21, 2011.  In We Are Almost There, he says on page 50, “The final five months of the earth’s history begins on May 21, 2011, and will end on October 21, 2011.”  Camping claims to know some exact dates.  The Flood was 5/21/4990BC, and since each day is a thousand years and God told Noah he would destroy the Earth in seven days, then 7,000 years from the flood would be tomorrow.  Also, he knows Jesus died on 4/1/0033, and 722,500 days from that date is, you guessed it, tomorrow.  He gets the 722,500 by multiplying then squaring three numbers, 5-17-10 – each one has spiritual significance (for Harold).

May 19, 2011 by

Today we’re partnering with Andy Bales and the Union Rescue Mission to move 16 desperate families into a sanctuary called Hope Gardens by July 1.  There are now 55 families sleeping in cots or EDAR tents in their overcrowded Community Room at the Mission, and there’s only room for 16 more families at Hope Gardens.  These families now sleep, eat, shower, and play in a large communal areas – think a gym floor and the locker room showers. These families are mostly young women with young children.

Hope Gardens is a sanctuary for these young families, located adjacent to the Angeles National Forest on 77 beautiful acres, it provides transitional housing for 175 women and children for up to 18 months, where moms complete their education and learn new job skills, and kids can once again – well – be kids, surrounded by grass, trees, and playground equipment – a whole world away from the horrors of skid row.

Your gift in any amount is appreciated, but for all gifts of $100 or more given during the show, those gifts will be tripled thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor named “Scott.”

For your gift of $1,500, we want to invite you to come to the station for a VIP tour, sit here in the studio with me during the last part of our show, and then you’ll join Andy and I for something to eat here at our studio.

And, for your gift of $6,500, I’ll come and do my show at your home or business! (Some restrictions apply.)

To help, call (888) 799-4999 or give online at kkla.com.

Tunyshia Settles – Came from Michigan to Los Angeles to be with her dying mother last May.  Her grandmother died around Thanksgiving, she tried to stay with other family, but there were problems, and she was homeless for about two weeks.  However, she wasn’t alone – she had with her her 10-year-old son Rashid, and her 15 month old grandson Isaiah too.  She went into Hope Gardens in the middle of January, and has now been there for the past 4 months.

Krysta Warfield – Fled domestic violence up in Valencia with her three daughters, ages then 14, 8, and 4.  She ultimately ended up on the street with a drug habit.  She entered a voluntary treatment program, placing her kids into the system, and did so well that she was accepted into Hope Gardens with her three kids.  Over the past two years, there’s been a huge transformation in her family.  She’ll be graduating in the Spring, she was just on the honor roll, as a paralegal and now needs a job in the legal field.

• Dr. Dobson will be our special guest-speaker at two upcoming events, both on Thursday, May 26th – first, our Pastor’s Luncheon at the Universal Hilton that’s free to all church staff and their wives, and second, our big listener event that evening at Lake Avenue at 7pm.  They’re both free, but you need to pre-register with us at kkla.com.

400-408 – Barry Corey, will begin his 4th year as president of Biola University in July (biola.edu), talks about sponsoring next week’s Dobson events, their Christian in Visual Arts Conference (CIVA) in June, and upcoming commencement, May 27-28 – including the first class of the Kiev extension program.

428-438 – • OC Register (5/17/2011) Atheist, Christian students square off in debate.

• Fox News (5/17/2011) Sources: Navy SEALs Knew Bin Laden Mission Was One-Shot Deal.

443-452 – Tease forward about the Divine Conspiracy.

458-508 – Dallas Willard, Professor of Philosophy at USC, my favorite Christian author and teacher, has had a bigger impact on my spiritual life than anyone else, especially through his classic The Divine Conspiracy.  His latest book is great too, it’s entitled Knowing Christ Today: Why We Can Trust Spiritual Knowledge (dwillard.org).  Today, we talk about what Jesus would have to say about the Arnold situation that’s all abuzz in the media right now.

512-523 – Dallas Willard.  How do we love our enemies? To love someone is to be set to do what is good for them, and to stop punishing them.  We seek to restrain evil, for the harm it does to the person themselves and to others, and sometimes that restraint requires lethal force (e.g., law enforcement).

528-539 – Dallas Willard.  How do you fire someone in Christian love?  Two big principles:  You never love just the one person, you love everyone involved in the situation, and you never cut people off – you’re in it with them, still seeking what is best for them (this requires that they are interested in being with you).

There is deep confusion between love and sentimentalism – love is an act of the will, sentimentalism is your feelings.  Love has nothing to do with sentimentalism.

544-554 – Dallas Willard.  Romance and Parenting?  What!  Punish in ‘cold blood!‘  Discipline vs. Punishment.

558-608 – Mark Baker, Clinical Psychologist and Executive Director of La Vie Christian Counseling Centers (laviecounseling.org, KKLA Helpline (800) 801-5242) in Pasadena and Santa Monica, and author of the million-copy bestseller Jesus, The Greatest Therapist Who Ever Lived.  Hear Mark teach on emotional and spiritual growth at DrMarkBaker.com.

Calls – When do you tell the children of infidelity who their daddy is?  Answer:  around age 12.

612-623 – Mark Baker.  How do you break “big news” to children?

628-639 – Mark Baker.  How do you help a suicidal friend?

644-654 – Mark Baker.  How do you deal with trust issues when your father abandoned the family when you were 12?

400-408 – Lee Strobel (leestrobel.com), one of the biggest names in Christian apologetics with his Case For series (Faith, Christ, Real Jesus, Creator), is out with his first novel tomorrow (May 17), a thriller entitled The Ambition, an intricate tale of power, politics and payoffs in a suburban megachurch, a big-city newspaper, and the shadowy corridors of political intrigue.  We’ve got 5 copies to give away today.

• Oliver Thomas (USA Today, 4/15/2011) Faith in America: Get ready for change.  Oliver Thomas is a member of USA TODAY’s Board of Contributors and author of 10 Things Your Minister Wants to Tell You (But Can’t Because He Needs the Job).

The tricky thing about present trends is that they never continue. Things change — law, politics, medicine, transportation, all of it. Even religions must change. As soon as a religion fails to meet human needs — or even to connect with its audience — it begins to die. History is strewn with the wreckage of once vibrant faiths that became irrelevant.

// For starters, it appears that faith is becoming less creedal.

// Early Christianity was spiritually fluid, with an emphasis on prayer, worship and acts of charity. It would take several hundred years for this vibrant spirituality — for which thousands were willing to die — to calcify into the mere assent to a prescribed set of beliefs known as “orthodoxy.” This stodgy elevation of doctrine over ethics has carried the day for centuries, but, alas, its days could be numbered. Exhibit A is the burgeoning number of Americans claiming to be “spiritual but not religious.”

Young adults appear largely uninterested in our denominational joustings over “correct” doctrine. They seek opportunities to worship, serve and become part of a nurturing community that cares deeply for one another. Their God is a big God who is unbound by Scripture or learned scholarly limitations. Instead, they see Scripture for what it is: the witness of fallible humans to God’s acts in history.

// Not only will faith be less creedal, it will also be less hierarchical.

Apostolic succession” — the belief that church leaders derive authority via direct succession from Jesus, Peter and the apostles themselves — is largely fiction, according to professor Cox. In fact, there were no professional clergy in the early church. Even the great Apostle Paul was a tent-maker. Women were also in positions of leadership. The Acts of the Apostles refers to four sisters who were evangelists, and at least one woman (Junia) was an apostle. Paul refers to her in the last chapter of his letter to the church at Rome.

// Finally, faith is likely to become more countercultural. That is to say it will be less cozy with society’s poo-bahs and more willing to criticize government than curry its favor or largesse.

413-423 – Lee Strobel  Is apologetics dead?

• USA Today (5/16/2011) Physicist Stephen Hawking rejects heaven or afterlife as a ‘fairy story’.

// In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, Hawking, who has suffered from an incurable illness since the age of 21, says the prospects of dying as a young man led him to enjoy life more.

“I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first,” the 69-year-old scientist tells the British newspaper.

“I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark,” he added. //

428-437 – Lee Strobel  What’s Ambition about?

443-452 – Lee Strobel  Gary Poole’s “If you could ask God just one question and get an answer, what would you ask?”  Excellent question!  Based on his book “Seeker Small Groups.”

458-508 – Sean McDowell, (seanmcdowell.org, “Worldview Ministries”), head of the Bible department at Capistrano Valley Schools, and author of many books including his latest entitled Is God Just a Human Invention?  Coming up tomorrow night, Tuesday May 17th, at Capistrano Valley Christian Church in San Juan Capistrano (32032 Del Obispo Street), from 730-900pm, there’ll be a student debate on the existence of God between the CVCS Apologetics Team and students from the Freethought Alliance.  Go and hear students present arguments on both sides, and bring your questions you want addressed.  Cost is just $5 for students, and $10 for adults.  100% of proceeds will be donated to support charitable causes!
